Description
A deliciously moist chocolate chip cake with a buttery streusel topping.
Ingredients
Scale
- ¾ cup (153 g) packed light brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (1 stick, 113 g) unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 ¼ cups (150 g) all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
- 2 cups (240 g) all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (170 g) mini chocolate chips
- ½ cup (1 stick, 113 g) unsalted butter (softened to room temperature)
- ½ cup (100 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (107 g) packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs (room temperature)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (227 g) sour cream (room temperature)
Instructions
- Prep oven and pans. Position rack to center of oven and preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease a 9×9 pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.
- Make the topping. Whisk brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt in medium bowl until evenly combined. Add warm melted butter, and with a wooden spoon or spatula, stir to blend. Add flour and toss with fork until moist clumps form (topping mixture will look slightly wet). Set aside.
- Combine dry ingredients. In a small mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the mini chocolate chips. Set aside.
- Cream butter and sugars. In a large mixing bowl, with an electric mixer cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
- Add wet ingredients. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing until incorporated. Scrape down the bowl as needed. Add vanilla and mix to combine.
- Alternate dry with sour cream. Add the flour mixture, alternately with the sour cream in 3 additions, starting and ending with the flour.
- Spread half of the batter in pan. Top with half of the brown sugar topping. Add remaining batter. Add remaining streusel.
- Bake. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown, and the inserted toothpick comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool before serving.
Notes
- This cake is best enjoyed fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
- For added flavor, consider adding nuts or a dash of espresso powder to the batter.
