Description
A delicious slow cooker whole chicken with a sweet rub, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 4-5 pound whole chicken
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 2 tablespoons light brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare the whole chicken by removing the innards from the chest cavity. Use a paper towel to pat dry both inside and out.
- To keep the chicken from resting on the bottom of the slow cooker, place a small wire rack or 4 balls of aluminum foil, then put the chicken on top.
- In a small mixing bowl, combine the paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper to make a sweet rub. Mix well, then use your hands to rub the mixture all over the chicken.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours until an internal thermometer reads 165 degrees in the thickest part of the breast.
- Preheat the oven broiler about 30 minutes before the chicken is done cooking. Once the chicken has cooked through, place the whole chicken on a large baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and broil for about 2 minutes, or until the chicken skin is golden and crispy. Be sure to keep a close eye so that it doesn’t burn!
- Remove chicken from the broiler and let rest for at least 15 minutes before carving or shredding. Enjoy!
Notes
- Always check the internal temperature of the chicken to ensure it is fully cooked.
- Broiling time may vary, watch closely to avoid burning.
- Letting the chicken rest will help retain the juices.
