Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring
  • Sprinkles (red, green, and white)
  • Edible gold stars (for decoration)
  • Assorted edible Christmas ornaments (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Cake Batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. In a separate large bowl, beat eggs and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  3. Bake the Cake: Spread the batter evenly onto the prepared pan. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the cake springs back when touched. Immediately after baking, invert the cake onto a clean kitchen towel dusted with powdered sugar. Remove parchment paper. Roll the cake and towel together, starting with the narrow end. Cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Whipped Cream: In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Gently fold in green food coloring until you achieve the desired shade.
  5. Assemble the Yule Log: Unroll the cooled cake and spread a layer of green whipped cream over the surface. Carefully roll the cake back up without the towel. Frost the outside of the cake with more green whipped cream.
  6. Decorate: Sprinkle red, green, and white sprinkles over the cake. Decorate with edible gold stars and Christmas ornaments as desired.
