Description

Indulge in these delicious red velvet cinnamon rolls, complete with cream cheese frosting, perfect for any occasion!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Extra flour for dusting
  • Cooking spray or butter for greasing

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Add melted butter, red food coloring, and egg. Mix well. In another bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to create a paste.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick. Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the dough. Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into 9 rolls. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.
  4. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Make the Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat cream cheese and butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  6. Serve: Spread the frosting over warm rolls before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to properly activate the yeast.
  • Be generous with the filling for extra flavor.
  • Adjust the food coloring for desired red intensity.
  • For softer rolls, place them closer together in the baking dish.
