Instructions
- Prepare Apples:
- Wash and thoroughly dry the apples.
- Insert candy apple sticks into the cores.
- Set Up Work Area:
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease with cooking spray or butter.
- Make Candy Coating:
- In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water.
- Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.
- Color the Candy:
- Remove from heat and quickly add black gel food coloring, stirring until evenly combined.
- Divide the hot mixture into separate bowls if you wish to create multiple galaxy color blends.
- Dip the Apples:
- Dip each apple into the black candy mixture, rotating to cover completely.
- Allow excess to drip off and place on the prepared baking sheet.
- Add Cosmic Effects:
- While the black candy is still wet, quickly add drops of purple, blue, and pink gel food colorings.
- Use a toothpick to swirl the colors, creating a galaxy effect.
- Sprinkle edible glitter over the apples for a starry appearance.
- Set the Candy:
- Allow the candy coating to harden completely at room temperature.
Notes
- Ensure apples are completely dry to help the candy coating adhere.
- Use a candy thermometer for accurate cooking and to avoid burning the sugar mixture.
- Work quickly when adding colors and glitter to prevent the candy from setting too soon.
- Practice caution as the hot sugar mixture can cause burns if mishandled.
