Description

Deliciously flaky biscuits packed with savory sausage and cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 cup cooked sausage, crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives or parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Additional butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut in Butter: Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add Sausage and Cheese: Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
  5. Mix in Buttermilk: Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake: Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
  8. Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter if desired. Sprinkle with chopped chives or parsley for added flavor.

Notes

  • Make sure your butter is very cold; this helps create flakiness in the biscuits.
  • You can substitute sausage with bacon or ham if preferred.
  • For an extra cheesy flavor, add more cheddar cheese on top of the biscuits before baking.
  • To make them spicier, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
  • Ensure not to overmix the dough, as this can make the biscuits tough.
