Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder.
- Cut in Butter: Add the cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Sausage and Cheese: Fold in the cooked sausage and shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed.
- Mix in Buttermilk: Pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick rectangle. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake: Bake the biscuits in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.
- Finish and Serve: Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter if desired. Sprinkle with chopped chives or parsley for added flavor.
Notes
- Make sure your butter is very cold; this helps create flakiness in the biscuits.
- You can substitute sausage with bacon or ham if preferred.
- For an extra cheesy flavor, add more cheddar cheese on top of the biscuits before baking.
- To make them spicier, consider adding a pinch of cayenne pepper to the dry ingredients.
