Description
A hearty casserole featuring cabbage and ground beef, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 head cabbage (cubed, enough to cover the bottom of pan in a thick layer)
- water (for boiling)
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 cup diced tomatoes (or rotel)
- 1/2 onion (diced)
- 1 bell pepper (diced)
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (shredded, optional)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- In a preheated frying pan, fry all of the meat, onions and diced green pepper. As soon as the meat is browned, add all of the tomatoes, vinegar, sugar and seasonings. Stir.
- Fill a pot halfway with water and a pinch of salt over medium high heat until it reaches a consistent boil. Chop the cabbage into large bite size pieces and submerge. Boil for 3-5 minutes or until al dente but softened. Drain.
- Place the cabbage in a baking dish. Place minced meat mixture on top. Cook for 15-18 minutes at 350 F. Add cheese to the top and cook for another 3-4 minutes until melted. Serve with salt and pepper to taste.
Notes
- This dish can be prepared ahead of time and baked when ready to serve.
- Feel free to add other vegetables or seasonings according to your taste.
