Description

This delicious homemade bread is made in a bread machine for convenience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm water (about 85F)
  • 3 tablespoons molasses (not blackstrap)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons oil (like olive oil)
  • 3 ¼ cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Instructions

  1. Add the ingredients to your bread machine in the order given by the manufacturer. It will likely be the order listed above.
  2. Press the basic or white bread cycle. Adjust the crust setting. I like to use the lightest setting as the molasses and honey can cause the bread to overbrown with darker cycles.
  3. This recipe will make a 1 pound loaf.
  4. Once the cooking time has ended, remove the bread and let it cool on a wire cooling rack for about 30 minutes before slicing and serving with plenty of butter.

Notes

  • This bread has a wonderfully sweet flavor thanks to the molasses and honey.
  • The use of cocoa powder gives the bread a rich color but does not impart a strong chocolate flavor.
  • Store any leftover bread in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
